Jonathan Whitcomb (born in 1949, in Pasadena, California) was certified by the American Guild of Court Videographers in 1998 and has, in recent years, produced day-in-the-life and other forensic video productions for law firms.

In 2003, he became deeply interested in reports of non-bat-like featherless flying creatures in Papua New Guinea and produced the video “Searching for Ropen”  after editing video footage taken by Paul Nation of the Creation Evidence Museum in Glen Rose, Texas.

In 2004, Whitcomb traveled to Lae, Papua New Guinea, where he found a local man to be his interpreter, body guard, and porter. Following detailed advice from Paul Nation, the two men sailed to Umboi Island and spent two weeks looking for ropens and interviewing eye-witnesses of the creature.

From June, 2005, through June, 2006, Whitcomb compiled eyewitness testimony evidence obtained from investigations of seven explorers, analyzed it, and wrote the book “Searching for Ropens.”
