Gideon describes the flight of the ropen over the lake:

 

Gideon Koro, of the Akure Village area of Umboi Island (northwest of Tarawe Village), hiked up Mount Tolo with six other boys in 1994. A few minutes after arriving at the largest of the three crater lakes (Pung), they were frightened by a “ropen” that flew thirty meters above the surface of the lake.

 

Jonathan Whitcomb, a forensic videographer from California, interviewed Gideon in 2004. The young man spoke some English but an interpreter was also used. (And Whitcomb spoke some Tok Pisin.)
